At Ashton Primary School, we are proud of the achievements of our children and the progress they make throughout their time with us.
The information below provides our latest results from statutory assessments across the school. Where appropriate, we have compared our 2026 outcomes with the latest published national figures.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Good Level of Development
At the end of Reception, children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals. Children who achieve the expected level across specified areas of learning are considered to have achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD).

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
The Phonics Screening Check is a statutory assessment undertaken by children towards the end of Year 1. It assesses children's ability to decode and read words using their phonics knowledge.

This is an increase of 14 percentage points from 2025 and is 7 percentage points above the latest published national figure.
At Ashton, we teach early reading systematically through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, supporting children to develop secure phonics knowledge and become confident and fluent readers.
Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a statutory assessment completed by children in Year 4. It assesses children's fluency in recalling multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. The maximum score is 25.

⭐ Strong outcomes above the latest national figures
Our Year 4 children achieved particularly strong results in the Multiplication Tables Check.
43% achieved a perfect score of 25 out of 25, more than double the proportion achieving full marks at Ashton in 2025 and above the latest published national figure of 37%.
Our average score increased from 21.0 to 22.6 out of 25, also exceeding the latest published national average of 21.0.
Key Stage 2 – Year 6
At the end of Year 6, children undertake statutory national assessments in Reading and Mathematics. Writing is assessed by teachers against the statutory Teacher Assessment Framework.

Our Statutory Results at a Glance
We are particularly proud of a number of achievements within our 2026 statutory assessment results:
75% of Reception children achieved a Good Level of Development, compared with the latest published national figure of 68.3%.
87% of Year 1 children met the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check, compared with the latest published national figure of 80%.
43% of Year 4 children achieved a perfect 25 out of 25 in the Multiplication Tables Check, compared with the latest published national figure of 37%.
Our Year 4 children achieved an average MTC score of 22.6 out of 25, compared with the latest published national average of 21.0.
These outcomes reflect some of the strengths within our curriculum and the hard work of our children and staff.
We continue to use statutory assessment information alongside our wider knowledge of each child to celebrate achievement, identify priorities for improvement and ensure that every child is supported to achieve their very best.
Where 2026 national data has not yet been published, national comparisons use the latest officially published national data from 2025. These comparisons will be updated as the Department for Education publishes the corresponding 2026 national results.
