Family Support

Welcome from Mrs Lorraine Moores, Family Support Worker, at Ashton Primary School.

Hi,

I am Lorraine Moores, many of you will already know me as I have worked at Ashton Primary School for over 18 years. Both of my own children attended Ashton Primary School. In fact I knew some of you when you were pupils here at Ashton.

Over the years my role has changed, I have been a parent helper, dinner lady, classroom assistant, non- teaching assistant, learning support assistant, teaching assistant and more recently a Learning Mentor.  I have experience of working in all year groups

From now on, I am going to take on the role of Family Support Worker and am really looking forward to working with lots of parents and families.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT YOU?

My role

My working hours will be from 8.30 – 4pm every day.

I will be on the playground every morning from 8.45am and every afternoon from 3.10pm. If you have any messages for the class teacher, would like to pay trip or dinner money, need copies of letters or would like to make an appointment with a member of staff please speak to me and I will gladly organise this.  It will also save you a trip to the school office.

We have a Family Support Room where we can have a chat over a coffee, and my open door policy means that I can meet you about more urgent concerns quickly.

I can be contacted through the office (01772 728052) who will put you through to the Family support room.

My email address is lorrainemoores@ashton.lancs.sch.uk

What types of support can we offer?

The aim of my role is to support families to ensure the best outcomes for their children, this might involve…

  • Supporting parents with housing/finance issues and applications
  • Signposting to other agencies who have expertise in relevant areas
  • Supporting parents in improving children’s punctuality and attendance
  • Accompanying parents to appointments or meetings.
  • Supporting parents/pupil with any educational, behavioural, well- being or other concerns that they may have
  • Working alongside parents to improve children’s behaviour
  • Supporting children/parents with issues that may arise such as bereavement, separation
  • Supporting children on a 1:1 basis with their self-esteem, confidence, behaviour or work
  • Being an understanding ear and listening to and appreciating parents’ concerns, offering suggestions and signpost to other agencies where appropriate for support.
  • Supporting children and parents through the transition process, organising extra visits to High schools if needed
  • Organising workshops for parents as a group
  • Encouraging healthy eating

You can contact Lorraine Moores the School Family Support Worker on 01772 728052. leave a message at the School Office or ask your child's teacher to pass on a message.

An appointment will then be made at a convenient time for you.

If someone working with your child in school feels that you may benefit from some extra help, our Family Support Worker will speak to you discreetly to find out if they can be of any help.  Support will only be offered if that is what you need and want.
