In English we will be reading:
Our writing will be based around exploration narrative and formal recounts.
In maths, we will continue our mastery approach and in the first half term will learn about place value of number, addition and subtraction. In Autumn 2, the children will learn about methods for multiplication and division and fractions.
This is in addition to daily arithmetic practice and times tables sessions.
Our science unit is, Animals including Humans.
The focus of this unit is to learn about the growth and development of humans.
In history, the children will be learning about Baghdad AD900 as a contrast with British history.
Our PE days are on a Monday and Wednesday in the first half term. The children will be learning to play invasion games. On a Wednesday, the children will be taught by Mrs McCann alongside a PNE coach.
On a Monday and Wednesday, the children can come to school in their PE kits. The majority of PE lessons will take place outside. Please ensure children have tracksuit bottoms and the school jumper as the days get colder. Children also need appropriate footwear - pumps or trainers. Earrings should be removed on these days.
Other Important Information
We will continue to use Class Dojo to award the children team points and to let parents know what is happening in class. Please check regularly for messages. We will also be using Twitter and the newsletter to update you on what is happening in class and to celebrate the children's achievements.
In Year 5 homework consists of:
Reading - please ensure you are supporting your child to read at least 5 times a week.
Spellings - Homework will be set on Ed Shed.
My Maths - tasks will be set weekly for the children to complete
Homework will be set every Wednesday to be completed for the following Wednesday.
Times Tables - All children should know their multiplication facts and the corresponding division facts up to 12 x 12. Children should practise regularly. They will be tested each Friday and will move up when they are confident on a particular table.
