Our text for this half term is the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We will be learning about different genres of writing through the story and characters.
In Maths we will be focusing our attentions on place value and our arithmetic skills. We will make sure we all understand how to read and write numbers in figures and words as well as understanding the value of each digit in a number. Then we will make sure we can all use the written methods that we have been practising this year.
ASHTON IS 60!
We will be conducting a local area study in our history topic in the first half term by researching the history of Preston High Street.
Other Important Information
PE will be on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Please make sure that school PE kit is in school every day. PE lessons will be outside so children may wear navy blue/grey/black leggings or jogging bottoms instead of their shorts. It is also recommended that trainers are worn. Please make sure that if your child wears earrings, they are capable of taking them out before the PE lesson. If not please remove them before they come to school.
We will continue to use Class DoJo to award the children team points and to let parents know what is happening in class. Please check regularly for messages and to keep up to date with our class story.
In Year 5 homework consists of:
Reading - please ensure you are supporting your child to read at home every night
Spellings - Children will be given a set of spellings that they are to learn each week. They will then be tested on a Wednesday and provided with new spellings if the meet the expected standard.
My Maths - tasks will be set weekly for the children to complete
Times Tables - All children should know their multiplication facts and the corresponding division facts up to 12 x 12. Children should practise regularly. They will be tested each Friday and will move up when they are confident on a particular table.
Any queries or concerns please contact us via Class DoJo.
We look forward to working with you and your child this term. Thank you in advance for your support.
