Welcome to Year 3
Summer Term 2 2021
Our year 3 team is Mrs Hird and Mrs Egan. Mrs Moores will teach the class on a Monday Afternoon.
As the weather is now getting warmer please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school. Please apply sun cream each day as we woul like to make the most of the weather and learn outside whenever possible; a sunhat would also be beneficial.
In English this half term we will start by looking at non fiction writing. We will be creating information leaflets about volcanoes.
Our class book will be The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. We will also be reading a range of poems.
In maths we will be looking at place value, the four operations and fractions.
In our topic work we will be looking at local history. In this topic we will look at a variety of maps and aerial photographs of the local area. In Science we will be looking at Light.

PE days are Thursdays and Fridays.
This term children should come to school on PE days in their kit. PE kit includes your school jumper or cardigan - no hoodies or sweatshirts please.
Please ensure you have removed any earrings on this day as children will not be able to do PE with earrings in. Please note that adults in school are not allowed to remove the earrings and plasters over earrings are not permitted.
As your child is now in the juniors, there is an expectation that they take responsibility for their own belongings. Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled. No toys or pencils cases are allowed in school.
We ask for the children to only bring their water bottle and packed lunch in to school. We cannot accommodate rucksacks or bags.
Please remind your child to hand any letters that may need to be collected to a member of staff. Reading book should be brought in to school every Thursday.
This half term we will continue to look at the Year Two Spelling Rules and phonics. We will also continue to learn the Year 3 words.
Please make sure Spelling Bee books are brought in to school every Thursday.
Please try and encourage your children to practice their spellings.
Reading - Please listen to your child read every night and ask lots of questions to ensure they understand what they have read. This should take approximately 10 minutes. Ensure you record that your child has read in the Reading Diary. Books will be checked weekly by an adult in school. Children must put their book folder in the box every Thursday. Children who read regularly find writing easier, they see sentence structure, learn new words and fuel their imaginations.
My Maths homework will be set weekly on a Friday and should be completed by the following Friday.
There are also tasks set on the Splash Learn web site.
Please see Class DoJo fo log in details.
Timetables. Children in Year 3 should now know their 2s, 5s and 10s and are now working on 3s,4s and 8s. Please support your child in learning their times tables at home. Children will be tested weekly on their times tables.
All children have log in details for Times Tables Rock Stars. Please encourage them to access this website at home.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year
