English (Summer 1):
We are really excited to explore our new text, 'The Last Wolf'. We will read the book together as a class, forming lots of questions along the way and checking our understanding of some tricky vocabulary. There will be lots of writing opportunities throughout this unit of work. We will focus of forming sentences and sentence structure. In this book, the woods aren't all they seem. I wonder if there are even any wolves left?
This term, we will continue our new phonics scheme. The children are currently learning Phase 5 phonics. We will also be preparing the children, ready for the Phonics Screening Check.
Topic (Summer 1):
Our new topic for Summer 1 is 'Nature Detectives'. During this topic, the children will become nature detectives and get 'hands on' with nature. The children will learn lots about plants, within Science lessons. This will prepare them for observing and draw plants and flowers, in Art. I hope the children are hungry, as we will be learning where certain types of foods come from, before preparing and combining foods.
Book Bags and Reading:
Please can your child's reading book be brought into school everyday. There will be some opportunities for children to read to an adult in school. Books will be changed on Fridays.
Reading at home:
Please ensure you read with your child everyday at home for 5 minutes. Please can we ask for a short comment to be written in their reading diary and return the diary to school with their books.
We will be having PE on Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Please bring to school a fully labelled PE kit to get changed into.
If you need to talk to any of the Year 1 team please contact the office to make a telephone appointment or you can contact us via Class Dojo.
